Place Microgrids

This algorithm was originally developed by Roy Hyunjin Han for Powerhive from 2013 to 2014 and was used to identify potential microgrid sites in Kenya. Salah Ahmed upgraded the algorithm in 2019. The nickname for this algorithm is kings-queens-knights, where kings are batteries, queens are control boxes and knights are households.

Version 1 (2014) by Roy Hyunjin Han
- Uses Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno for control placement.
- Uses Kruskal for control networking.
Version 2 (2019) by Salah Ahmed
- Uses the trust-region algorithm for constrained optimization for control placement.
- Uses the KnapsackSolver from Google's OR-Tools to choose a selection of microgrids given a fixed budget.
